Comfort-loving Nicholas Thistlebrae and his friend, Violet Sponge, are swept into a twisting adventure that lands them in the fierce world of Batmaarag. The two become entangled in schemes of kidnapping and betrayal as they collide with a cast of mysterious, and often dangerous, characters. When the ancient enemy of Batmaarag seeks to destroy them, Nicholas and Violet risk everything as they race to save not only their new friends, but also their own world. 

Nicholas and Violet make difficult decisions as they struggle to understand the larger drama unfolding around them and their places within it. They emerge from their adventure with a deeper understanding of what it means to be brave, and of how closely friendship is tied to forgiveness.
